So now people are realizing that their blackberries can also act as rangefinders. The idea sounds great, but there are a few things that people do not seem to realize. First of all the whole time that you are using the rangefinder application on your blackberry you are also connected to the web which can become quite costly! Secondly, we are dealing with satellite images and not physical mapping of the course, thirdly it is draining your battery and last but not least there are many golf course which do not permit the use of mobile devices on course grounds.
When visiting a course in Sudbury, I was getting ready to tee off; I had my SkyCaddie out and ready to go, I had preloaded with the course I was playing; a fellow that I was playing with pulled out his blackberry and started to brag to me about how blackberry has it all, however when he went to find the course on the system he could not find it. Needless to say that the blackberry application may sound great in theory but it is not all that it is hyped up to be.
